Try changing your brush dynamics. Apply a Jitter in your tool options, set it to about 1-5 (depending on the size of the render/stock) and stroke slowly and repeatedly to get a smoother, more realistic smudge. Perhaps try with custom brushes from DeviantArt.

Good job though, a change for the better definitely.
